Student Supervision

School officials are responsible for exercising reasonable care when supervising students. The duty of supervision for schools may be broad or very narrow and specific depending on

  • the age of the students; nature of the activity(ies) conducted;
  • ability or any special needs of students;
  • and the number of students present at any given location or activity.

Here, we've provided practical considerations and resources for schools when assessing their duty and adequacy of student supervision at school, school related/sponsored activities, and before and after school activities.
